Hi there,

I have actually no clue how costly a server which would manage large sql databases, or websites, would cost. Does someone have an idea?

I would have guest something in the range of 5 -10 000 € for everything needed to have a secured server. Am I far away from that?

Edit: Sorry for having posted in the wrong subforum, I forgot there was a server one!

it depends for sure on how large to you mean

Something that could handle the requests on a database of like 500 000 to a million peoples. And as for the website part of the question, definitely something as strong as the server which is running this forum. I'd say there should be a traffic from a tenth of the traffic of this forum, to maybe twice as much.

I don't know if that gives you a better idea?

yeah i think it costs around 30 to 50 grand or ever higher if you want more features or better connectivity but generaly i think for what you are asking its as much as i said for a pretty decent server(have in mind that i am not a profesional or have a networking company)

Well it's for a fictionnal business plan, and I have no clue, so that should do the trick :P thanks!

If you want to include licenses and hardware - I'd say about $1,000 per person for general office work. If you have engineers in this plan then it'd jump up another $1,000. For a single website, the bottleneck would be the internet/pipe before it's the CPU so it's very salable.

Thinking how much it would cost per person it's a little easier to scale your budget. Granted that's a very rough estimate but it'll get you in the ballpark.

If you're looking at a database for half a million concurrent connetions, it won't be a single server - instead it'd be either a cloud based deployment or multiple servers on premise.

A quality HP or Dell server configuration for an on premise office of less than 50 people - a project I'm currently working on involving 2 DL380's and a 1040 SAN is going to cost in the order of $180k (RRP ex tax). Keep in mind though that pricing includes 3Yr x 4Hr platinum support.

To buy what the equivalent of what I used to run the forums on would set you back roughly $16k.

Gee that's actually pretty expensive, we must be getting really good deals on our HP gear. Does that price also include engineering/installation labor costs?

Keep in mind that's based on the RRP for the CTO's from HPE, not the actual sale price to the client. Plus it's pure SSD storage in all of it with dual 10gig.
