Can someone tell me why every window is moved after extending displays from an already active display? For example steam and skype are on monitor #4 while monitor #2 is disabled, monitor #2 is re-enabled and everything that was on monitor #4 is moved to monitor #2.

Because windows developers can't do their job properly. In their defence they're not the only ones with this problem, but if you ask me it's freaking ridiculous at this point. Even TWM doesn't screw this up, and they're telling me software that is 30 years newer struggles with what should be a BASIC FUNCTION of any window manager and desktop environment? Is it SO DAMN HARD to prevent my desktop from resizing and moving my windows in borderline unreachable positions when I turn my screens off? Don't they think I may not care what the desktop looks like if I'm turning stuff off, but I may care for it to look like I left it when I come back? Or that if I connect a new monitor, the layout of the ones I already had connected should STAY THE SAME UNLESS SPECIFIED OTHERWISE?

It's normal, there's nothing you can do about it short of changing os.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*

Alright, thanks. Microsoft being shit again, nothing new there.

Well good thing I have display fusion to set shortcuts to move things back over, but it's really annoying when I just want to watch something on the tv or switch a monitor to play on PS4.

I'm confused, are you saying turning off the monitor does things to the window management that the same as disabling the monitor outright? Because I've had a dual monitor setup and I always had the second monitor off unless I actually needed it and Windows didn't notice or care. The only thing it picked up on was the USB hub was gone.

Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. depends on the panel. still ridiculous.
