What should i do?

Hello community, i am running old hardware, i game at 1080p and i get decent performance in most titles, but i feel i may need an ugrade shortly.

 

I have.

Intel Core i3 550 at 4.0ghz overclock

ASUS P7P55 LX

8GB 1600mhz Kingston ram

GTX 580 from eVGA

650 watt Corsair TX 650w

Windows 10 Pro x64

Latest game i play right now is Mad Max, i max it no problem and get 41-60FPS with Vsync.

 

I don't have a particular budget, and i live in England.

I'd start by buying a 1070 once it comes out. Once you get it, sell your 580.

 

After that, I suppose you could hold off for a while and get Zen / Kaby Lake at the end of the year.

AMD sounds good, but there is not enough info on Zen yet and i lost all my trust with AMD after the FX fiasco.

AMD didn't lose me... yet. Well, they did screw it up, but I'm giving them one more chance to earn my trust back.

 

If you have the money to get a 6600k + Z170 + 16gb DDR4 along with the 1070, you might as well buy everything right now. I just threw out the option of waiting for new CPU releases to spread out purchase a bit.

If you have the money to get a 6600k + Z170 + 19gb DDR4 along with the 1070, you might as well buy everything right now. I just threw out the option of waiting for new CPU releases to spread out purchase a bit.

I'm willing to wait it out a bit longer, i can handle lower some settings in one or two titles.

Just mentioning i am more inclined to intel right now due to AMD's recent history, but i am more than forgiving if ZEN turns out to be a killer.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Get yourself an SSD / some nice peripherals if you don't have those already.

I suggest an i5 6600K with an 1070....also get in on some of that SSD action and get a Samsung 850 evo of about 120 gigs...

 

Else you could go for some of the cheap 970s on sale right now ...and then wait for a better day for a good deal on a CPU....and still go for an SSD

Yeah SSD is definitely something i will get, not worth it right now with this PC though.
