If anything it's more efficient because there's no air to provide resistance so naturally I think an explosion would be even more deadly.

I thought the actual force was a result of the device exploding and the potential energy being released and that air particles are just the sort of "canvas" we see it traveling through. Maybe I'm wrong though.

 

I remember this video which is pretty cool though. It's like they make perfect spheres when not contained by Earth's atmosphere.

A C4 explosion is caused by the solid material turning very quickly into a GAS that expands very quickly,  the gas expansion would hit you, even in a vacuum.

What would the shock wave travel through? A shock wave needs material like air. An explosion in space would just be bright light and some heat.
