Are you talking motherboard + CPU, or just a motherboard?

If it's just a replacement motherboard, then it needs to have the proper socket for the CPU.

If it's a motherboard + CPU, I'd go for a newer Skylake build. But, note that the Z170 is designed for overclocking. Very few people risk overclocking a workstation, if they rely on it for actual productivity, so a B150, H110, or H170 board would be just as good.

For a workstation, you might want to consider using one of the new Skylake based Xeons with an appropriate WS chipset.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

i5-6600, 16Gigs, ITX Corsair 250D, R9 390, 120Gig M.2 boot, 500Gig SATA SSD, no HDD

Depends on which cpu you have, or which one you are going to buy.

I don't have any , it is a new setup

And my choice for cpu is

5820k for 2011 socket

Or 6700 skylate for 1151 soket

And i will go for 5820 for 2011 soket , or for Skylate 6700 for 1151 soket

But i need more info about the MotherBoard it self and what is my  other option for lower budget motherboard with the same idea

What's the budget? I could probably make a decent list :P (Would you need peripherals, the OS and a monitor in that budget?)

Well the X99 and i7 5820k will cost you more, but it has 2 more cores + decent OC can be made on that chip.

2011-v3 motherboards are all good. You can't find them under 200$, and for that price you get something decent.

Maybe like X99A krait edition or something.
