So lately my amd a8 6600k has been overheating. i still had the stock cooler so i bought an artic freezer pro 7 rev 2 however it is still hanging around 60c and 80c. It overheats whenever i try to play a game and sometimes reaches 100c when i render videos. Is this a normal thing for my cpu or do i have a dodgy chip?

I saw a post on reddit a while ago where someone's H110 fans weren't spinning. Make sure your fan is spinning.

Listen inside the case and make sure your pump is running. If it's not, RMA. If it is, remove the cooler, clean all the paste off with isopropyl alcohol, then reseat the cooler with new paste. Make sure it's got a firm, even connection with the CPU all around.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

D'oh. I saw H110i and assumed that's what you had. My bad for forgetting the OP.

Reseat the cooler. If that doesn't fix it, consider the following questions:

-What were your temps on the stock cooler?

-Were you overclocked on stock, or is that a new thing on the Arctic?

Regardless, your idle temp is way too high, which makes me suspect that the cooler isn't mounted properly.

Reset your BIOS. Transient spikes on power line, and other odd circumstances can result in some BIOS settings getting change. It could be that your APU is running out of spec - wrong frequency or voltage, for example.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

i have used speccy which gave 60c-8c, i have used AMD Overdrive which gives about 50c and Speedfan which gives 30c. My pc always turns its self off while i play games because of it overheating and thats why i want to fix it
