Is my hdd causing a blue screen of death?

It's OK i have fixed it now. I downloaded blue screen viewer and it was page fault in no-paged area. after a google round i found http://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/page-fault-in-non-paged-area-error/  seems to have fixed it for now, i used solution one if you are interested

I have recently added a IDE , I know its old but it was lying about and I needed to back up my files. After 15-20 mins of using my computer it blue screens. I have tried the jumpers, ribbon cable and psu but still gives me error 0x0000007e.

then yea, the hard drive probably should be switched for a newer one of possible

As for backing stuff up, which software are you using?

 

Personally, i use MiniTool Partition Wizard and i just clone the whole drive

I just copy and paste personal files, as reinstalling windows dose not bother me.

Oh, well that kinda explains the cause, because the error refers to data getting put into a area where the disk hasnt been paged

@theanimun gave you some excellent explanations. 


I would try to avoid using old drives for backups as this may pose danger to your data and you may be risking a major data loss. 


I'd rather put that drive in an external enclosure and use it as a data drive and consider another option for a better and more reliable backup option.
