NTFS to exFAT for using external hard drive on mac and pc?

So i won an external hard drive. It's formatted in NTFS and i want to use it to transfer files between a mac and a PC. would it be a good idea to just reformat it to exFAT? would this allow me to use it on both systems without more problems?

OSX cannot natively write to NTFS partitions, only read. 

 

exFAT would work on both OSX and windows though

how do you plan to use NTFS  ...Mac will do just fine with exFAT....and while we are at it, you can use it on almost any android phone too

You CAN use NTFS to write as well but its not worth the trouble
