and why has it become so cheap

Because old stuff drops in price. The 7xx series is about to become 2 generations old; in tech standards, that's quite a lot. Newer cards have more performance, more features, less consumption / heat problems, isn't affected by time.... all for around the same price of old stuff when they originally launched.

Obviously it would drop in price, otherwiser it wouldn't sell.

Power consumption, low VRAM (may struggle in some games), the GTX 770 where a bit louder cards and many people are scared to buy older hardware and since GTX 10XX is more or less out the GTX 9XX series isfor many people "old" too .The mentality of many people seem to be if something new comes out the old must be outdated and isn't worth anymore, someone (I can't remember the name) in this forum write: "Almost everyone seem to think that if something new comes out their "old" parts perform automaticly much worse than before. Must be Iphone logic ..."

And if I read all the hype post I kinda agree with that, you can see so many which want to swap to a new 1080 GPU even if they already own a GTX 980 or GTX980 Ti ... in my opinion this is ... more or less only to have "the new" most powerful card.

So if you find a cheap GTX 770 and are a bit on a cheap so that your target is 1080p gaming and this not to get the best benchmarks on earth than you can get it and I think you should be able to game on that for some time .... even if 2 GB VRAM can limit you a bit, it works if you turn down some special settings ... the usual budget workarounds to comfy deal with the mony you have.

thanks all for the info its been really helpful, im not sure if i keep it or not, mainly because of its power consumption (i don't really switch my pc off a lot). anyways appreciate the help ;)

It's not really THAT bad.

But anyway, you said you don't turn your computer off much. Do you perhaps help in distributed computing?
