Okay guys, I've been trying to figure this out, but having trouble.

I've got an old i7 930 in my rig right now, but a 980ti and 12GB DDR3. I've ran the steam VR test and got a superb rating. However it does mention it does not test the CPU as real-world use of a VR headset would.

I'm hoping my overclock would offset any demand needed (4.19Ghz), but here's my question:

Does the Vive's 'requirements' of an i5 4590 stem from architectural improvements of the newer generations, or will the power of my CPU be okay?

This will help me decide whether or not I can hold off on upgrading my backbone for a little while longer and get a 1080(after more tests of course).

PS it'd be cool to see some videos on VR performance on more machines ;-)

Let's face it: for this discussion to even make sense, you'd have to have the Vive in the first place. If you don't already own one, you might as well buy that first before thinking of upgrading.

If you do have it already, then you can just test it and see if the performance is satisfying. If you like it, hold off your upgrade. If not, I guess it's time to get a new platform....
