I have a reference 290x and its been creating a couple of issues.  It will shut down one of my 3 monitors when the temps get a little high and the other day it just crashed the system.  Im fairly certain its heat related.  My question is does any one have any ideas how to remedy that?

You could look at buying a new cooler for the card.

Better airflow through the system, cleaning out the cooler, and replacing the thermal paste.

I just rearranged the fans in the system trying to improve airflow and I was thinking about replacing the thermal paste but I wanted to seek knowledge from more informed sources.  I am really limited on funds right now.  Any suggestions on a good but inexpensive aftermarket cooler.

Its a reference card.....and the 290 and 290xs are like mini ovens. Especially because you are running a 3 monitor setup like me. I have 2 1080p screens and a 1024p screen and the temps went up a good 1-2 degrees bringing the idle temp on my MSI R9 380 to around ~61-63C. There is not much that you can do other than buy an aftermarket cooler & or increase the airflow in your case. My m-ITX build has the CPU watercooled and I modded my desk (basically cut a square out of the side of it) so the GPU could breath in the little cubby that the desk has through the side air-intake of the case.
