Windows 7 Update Stuck (Checking for updates)

So at school I've been working on three Optiplex 790's. They all three had 2x 250GB HDD's. One of them had Linux installed and the other had Windows 7. They were set up on Ubuntu so that the computer could essentially be turned into four machines through VM's. This of course never worked correctly trying to keep the peripherals all mapped to the same screen. So about half way through this year we got a new tech director at school and he tasked me this week with wiping the HDD's and installing a single version of Windows 7 on the Optiplex 790's. They've got 8GB of RAM and an Intel i5 so they just fly with minuscule office tasks that a school needs. Anyways, two out of the three computers will not download updates. Now you maybe saying why only two. Well the only difference was that the first one I wiped the HDD's on a separate PC before chucking them back in the Optiplex and wiping the partitions again in the Windows installer, on the other two PC's I just wiped the partitions using the Windows installer. Which I thought and I still think is exactly the same thing but for some reason those PC's cannot find their Windows updates.

 

If anyone knows what I need to check to troubleshoot this that would be great!
