Alright, so this past December four of my friends and I went to a computer store called Micro Center where three of us built computers from scratch and one upgraded. However, my friend Michael was still saving up money and is planning on building his PC when we go back to Micro Center this June. I'm trying to help him save some of the money because he's going to be spending $2,100* and still needs a monitor. The following link is what I recommend he gets.

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/T2xgTW

CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor ($343.99 @ SuperBiiz)

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($102.99 @ NCIX US)

Motherboard: MSI Z170A GAMING PRO CARBON ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($168.99@ SuperBiiz)

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory ($139.99 @ Amazon)

Storage: OCZ TRION 150 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive ($59.99 @ Amazon)

Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($72.99 @ NCIX US)

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GTX 1080 Founder's Edition ($699.00)

Case: Corsair 760T White V2 ATX Full Tower Case ($169.99 @ Micro Center)

Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA P2 650W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($99.99 @ NCIX US)

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM (64-bit) ($93.89 @ OutletPC)

Monitor: LG 25UM56-P 60Hz 25.0" Monitor ($179.00 @ Adorama)

Just a side note, his color scheme is white, black, gray, and neon blue.

These are the parts that he is adamant about having:

-Intel Core i7-6700K 4.0GHz Quad-Core Processor

-Corsair H100i v2 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

-NVIDIA GTX 1080 Founder's Edition

This is the build that he made:

Feel free to make recommendations with your own builds and that way I can get back to him with an exact build.

*He's not sure of his exact total but he knows it's anywhere between $2,100 and $2,400*

Well this is $1500 with similar CPU performance, and a much higher end 1440p 144hz IPS free-sync display, though clearly the 390 wouldn't compete with a 1080, and there's not going to be any reason really to buy the founders edition, it isn't actually any different than the 3rd party cards aside from the cooler naturally

you should wait to see what polaris offers as going with AMD saves you $200 or so on this high end display at least

and if not the i7 6700 then you should be getting a 5820K for that budget

Like I said, he's adamant that he keeps his i7-6700K, Corsair H100i v2, and GTX 1080 FE

What's his current display then? why buy a high end GPU for a 1080p 60hz display, if you still need a monitor, then free-sync is going to be better for the money

the main issue I have with the i7 6700K is that it's not too much better than the non K part, but also that the 5820K is just way better and usually costs the same

It'd be silly to just buy some hardware right out of the gate before waiting for proper reviews and benchmarks, there's also seemingly a chance pascal still doesn't have a-sync support if these benchmarks from ashses are real

If it's real then a 1080 is losing to 290 cards in DX12 with the same CPU

the X99 option anyways

The problem with him is that he's extremely adamant about getting a 6700K even though he doesn't want to overclock; like, at all. I tried convincing him to get a 6700 but he doesn't budge. I'm gonna try and talk other options with him tonight and see what he says cuz quite frankly, he barely even knows what he wants in his PC.

That's always fun, just ask him to tell you why he needs it lol
