Hello i was wanting some advice for my first computer.

I want a computer that will play most any game in high resolution and possibly some video editing and rendering in the future.

I also plan to upgade to water cooling and overclock the pc once i get a bit more money and can afford it.

Current plan for the pc is

case: Parvum s1.0 white

mobo: Asus VI gene

CPU: intel I-7 4770k

GPU: PNY 780/r9 290x  depends on the 290x spec/price

RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2x8gb

PSU: Corsair rm750W

HDD: WD blue 1TB

SSD: Samsung 840 evo 250GB

Monitor: Asus 27" pb278q

OS: windows 8

P.S. i want to water cool this to so I'm leaning toward the 780 because they actually water blocks for them. any thoughts?

Since you're going to be video editing/rendering 16 gigabytes of ram will be very helpful. Otherwise a very solid build; as you said wait till AMD releases their cards just in case there is something better or Nvidia's cards go down in price.

Personally I prefer Windows 7 but it's all about personal preference, waiting is always a good idea. Other then maybe some more RAM for video editing/rendering but not too shabby.  ^_^

Case = Bitfenix Prodigy, Motherboard = P8Z77 - I Deluxe, CPU = 3570k @ 4.2GHz, RAM = 2x 8GB G-Skill Ripjaws, GPU = Sapphire 7950 Boost Edition, Storage = 256GB Samsung 840 Pro.

If you're just gaming,i think a i5 4670k will be more than enough. Also i know that you are looking at the Asus VG248QE? Correct me if im wrong. I was also going to get it. But the 144hz really degrades the colors of the monitor, unless your playing twitch action gaming, you shouldnt get it, but instead get a nice IPS panel monitor.

EDIT: Duude. That's a sexy case.

My original plan was for 16GB but i went down to 8 when RAM prices skyrocketed, and I'm fearing they will go up even more.

Any ideas on a monitor that would be better for around the same price?

Wait for new AMD cards. Plan later. Parts and prices are probably making a big change by then.

Change the HDD for Seagate Barracuda and get 16GB RAM. New GPUs will be revealed tomorrow, just don't get the one you picked. 4GB on 256bit is a waste of money, not to say that Zotac has horrible customer support. You should get a 7970 with 2-3 fan cooler you like, they start at $300. Avoid Gigabyte if you want to OC.

My rig: CPU: Intel core i5 4670K MoBo: MSI Z87-G45 Gaming RAM: Kingston HyperX Beast 2x4GB 1600mhz CL9 GPU: EVGA GTX780 SC ACX SSD: ADATA Premier Pro SP900 256GBHDD: Western Digital RED 2TB PSU: FSP Aurum CM 750W Case: Cooler Master HAF XM OS: Windows 8 Pro
