Greetings to everyone!

A bit over 6 months ago i finally upgraded my c2d e8600 p35 chipset rig for the following:

CPU:

QuadCore Intel Core i5-2500K, 3719 MHz (37 x 101)

MOTHERBOARD:

Asus P8Z77-M (1 PCI, 1 PCI-E x1, 2 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR3 DIMM, Audio, Video, Gigabit LAN)

RAM:

16323 MB (DDR3-1866 DDR3 SDRAM) [HyperX Fury 2x8G dual channel mode]

GPU:
Sapphire Radeon 280x DualX VaporX 3GB/384-bit

CASE:
ThermalTake ARMORMX+

PSU:

ThermalTake SmartSE 630W semi-modular

You can also view the full config on my profile.

My question to you is:
How long am I future-proofed with this config, having in mind that  AMD soon releases new Polaris GPUs?

I suppose that my rig has enought RAM to deal easily with any current game (I don't count QUANTUM Break, since it's heavy on sysreq and I don't plan on transitioning to Win10 anytime soon - WIN7 FTW!)...

Really old so not very if any, but nothing is future proof.

your GPU will be fine for 1080p gaming for a while, no real need to change it.

Are you doing anything besides gaming? because you aren't going to need to change stuff for a while anyways. Best off just saving for zen or a future X99 based system

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

You will probably run into issues with that CPU before anything else there, would be my guess.  a 2500k when it was new (in hindsight now) turned out to be pretty future proof I guess, but I don't know how much longer we can expect a 5 year old CPU to hold up

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

In the future i was planing on making some slight video editing - max 1080p  (for some gearbest reviews).
Gaming, wordpress, FULL HD movies and tv shows, for the time being...

CPU is average, will last another 2 years with a proper OC.

GPU is good for 1080p currently.

PSU is tosh (used to have the same one)

RAM is enough for now

Same can be said about FX8350 honestly - originally it was worse than it is now since games have started making use of it better.

Anyway, back on topic - the 2500K will probably be fine for 2 more years - seeing as it can feed a 980 fine

Thanks for your reply. At what point of time would you suggest swithcing to Skylake-based rig (say i5-6600k), since the prices in my country are still skyhigh :D Is it clever to opt for i7 2600k if i find a good deal (since it isn't much of a boost (no game is optimized for 8 threads anyway)... On the side note i paid less than 300$ for the MOBO, CPU and RAM,6 months ago...

You're quite wrong actually - most AAA games from 2015/2016 make use of up to 16 threads just fine - look at GTA V, Witcher 3, FO4 - a 2600K is a fantastic cheap upgrade

Thank you. What was your bad experience with the mentioned PSU? I did a research on it before buying at the store, saying it is was quite decent at the time.

Low thermal level (35*C)

Poor chinese caps

Mediocre build quality

Yeah I sorta was wrong. For me the GTA  V works perfectly. The GPU is almost 100% utilized, but i have maxed out all the eye-candies :D On the side-note, my CPU is getting kinda hot (around 90C), but i guess it is time to change thermal compound or find myself a good cpu cooler... I haven't had a chance to play Witcher 3, yet, but i guess it would have around 30fps, at least.

i would overclock that cpu before thinking of upgrading. why do all this people buy k cpu's and z motherboard and dont use it? buy the cheaper stuff instead. its just as good.

Ok. Thanks for the heads-up. I'll keep that in mind. Which one would you recommend that isn't too expensive (pls don't say SeaSONIC :P -it's beyond my price range)...

90*C is too much, keep it under 80*C

As for Witcher 3, a friend has a 280X and gets 50fps on high settings easily. I get 40 with a 280

I use turboboost at 3,7Ghz (i recently pushed it up to 4,2GHz). The reason i had turned off OC is beacause i was affraid of shortening the CPU lifecycle, since it's on the stock cooling...

Just to mention how happy i am with my SSD :):):)
Even while i had my old rig, i have seen amazing snappiness boost in everything (most of all boot up of my win7, with lots of startup items). How much of a boost is putting two SSDs in RAID mode, and is it really worth the extra bucks?

What do you think of the following item (for my other parents' PC), not that it is necessary, but since it is dirty cheap, is it any good? Anyone had experience with Chinese brands' SSDs? http://www.gearbest.com/hdd-ssd/pp_356735.html

That is one Sketchy SSD - go for PNY or Sandisk
