Hi,I'm going to buy an i5 6400 on a z170 board and i was looking for the RAM.

I'think I'll go for a 2x8gb kit from Kingston but i have some questions. Is there any difference in performance between the 2666 kit and the 2400 one (i use the computer for gaming and some times for photoshop). Are the savage 2133 (for 84€) better than the fury (2400 for 75€/2133 for 65€)?

Why a non k chip on a z board?

with what your doing there is absolutely no difference whatsoever. because ram has very long warranty and doesnt fail often i would recommend to go for the cheapest 2133mhz kit you find.

Because they are cheaper and I don't need a k now. I already discussed this topic in another post and I decided to buy a z170 and not an H170;)

the cheap z170 are so cheap for a reason. they have bad audio and io. go for a b150 gaming board. they are way better when it comes to stuff like that.

Z170 has features where the B150 lacks. Unless he's on a tight budget, then he can get any board that he likes. Where does it say, non-K cpu will not work with a Z170 board. I never heard of it, is it from those who pretends to they know everything, but have no idea what they're talking about. As for a gaming b150 board. The amount you spend on that, might as well get Z170.

but those features are ment for high-end boards not low-end to mid-range ones. a b150 board has way better audio, storage and io for the same money. why get a mustang gt when your only cornering? it's pointless.

also i never said that a non k cpu doesnt work with a z170 motherboard. where do you have that from?

im just saying that its a waste of money. if you plan to overclock you should go for k cpu and z motherboard from the beginning.

I'm not saying you said that. But majority of the "help me build" thread are like this especially when someone configures a non-k cpu with a z170 motherboard.  $70 or lower for B150 and other entry level chipsets. Heading towards the $100 range, then get a Z170.

just take a look at those boards. you have no usb c,  no m.2 and the audio leaves to be desired.

just because its a better chipset doesnt mean its a etter board.

what does it better than a good b150 board, apart from oc'ing which you don't use with a non k cpu?

It has all the features you've mentioned, like USB type C as well as M.2. It officially supports overclocking on K cpus. For non-K you can get by with bclk oc. Faster ram. Even distribution of PCIe lanes at x8/x8, and RAID support.

To make it a fair comparision, both boards from Asus. The B150 Pro Gaming and Z170-E.

Difference between these two boards

Asus B150 Pro Gaming

2133 DDR4 max

XMP, ram down clocks to 2133MHz

6 SATA 3 ports

2 x16 slots @ x16 / x4

2-way CFX

M.2

8x USB including 3.1 and type A and C

4 fan headers (1x cpu + 3x chassis)

Supreme FX Audio (Realtek)

Asus Z170-E

3466 (o.c.) DDR4 max

XMP

8 SATA 3 supporting Intel RAID, with 2 ports part of SATA Express

3 x16 slots @ x16, x8/x8, x8/x8/x2

2-way SLI and CFX

M.2

5x USB including 3.1 type C

7 fan headers (2x CPU + 2x chassis + 3x optional fan extension hub)

Realtek ALC 887 audio codec

ThunderBolt header

Official overclocking support

Asus B150 Pro Gaming $129

Asus Z170-E..................$136

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132691

Price difference $7 bucks

That B150 is in the Z170 price territory. It does not make any sense to spend that much on a B150 board. If one want to get a B150 board then get something that's below $100

Asus B150M-K $79

thats funny. in germany the price difference is round about 40€. i think you just found a very good deal. and the z170-e has 4 normal usb ports on the back. thats just not enough.

i was more talking about boards like the asrock b150 gaming k4 or the gigabyte g1 sniper b7 (only has 5 usb ports). both are excellent value motherboards for gamers. of course they dont have stuff enthusiasts might need but if the only thing you do is gaming the most important thing about a motherboard is audio. why not save a couple bucks and get a better gpu or ssd instead.

you are totally right that other people might need sata express, raid or 3,4ghz ram. but those arent the features you need when your gaming. then its nice to have the essentials and not more.
