Something that can compete with consoles and that means console level graphics and up

then either choose a pre made or design a case for a steam box that would fit in nicely at a gamestop etc.

A <500$ build in an EVGA Hadron itx case would be perfect.

Something like this perhaps, but with an ITX mobo and some Intel CPU that fits the price.

I made it in a htpc case just because it would fit better in a living room(imo)

and it's <$500

I'll try to make a intel build

edit: I could have used cheaper memory and other cheaper things  but only now I thought about this

AMD Athlon X4 750k; Gigabyte F2A88XM-DS2; 8Gb Corsair XMS 1600 Mhz; AMD Hd5670 1Gb DDR3; Bequiet E6-600W; W7 Ultimate x64

i dont think you need all the 7970's and 8 gigs of ram, cause you can just stream the game from your gaming rig to the steambox. Having a nice and small yet quiet and efficient build is enough

RIG-Processor: Intel core i7 3770k @4.4GHz,Mobo: MSI Z77-G43,GPU:Gigabyte GTX 770, RAM:16 GB G-skill sniper f3,SSD: Corsair Force f3 240gb,HDD: Seagate baracuda 1TB,Cooler:CM Hyper 212 evo, Case: Sharkoon T28 Blue

Peripherals- Monitor: Samsung S24B300, Keyboard: Razer Blackwidow, Mouse: Razer Abyssus, Headphones: Razer Megalodon, Mousepad: Razer Goliathus Alpha, Webcam: Logitech C270,Pad:Logitech F710, Sp: Philips generic ones

Can the mods move this thread? It doesn't make sense not having this in the build-plan section. Plus I have a feeling a few people will be making these sort of threads if they can't find this one. Anyways, decided to work out one that I'd consider building. Started off with the most Home Theatre friendly case I've found which limited my options significantly and then built around that. It's a Silverstone slim mITX case which I think is perfect for the purpose. Idea is you have something mostly for streaming content from your gaming PC that's quiet, boots fast, is cheap and fits under your TV. You won't be doing much actual gaming on this outside of indie stuffs but it should be able to handle what you will throw at it just fine.
