Asking about a computer

Do you guys think it would be a good idea to ask my school for 2 of their Mac Pro's? They have a cage loaded with computers and I noticed they have about 5 2009-ish Mac Pro's. I would like one or two just to play with but I feel a little weird asking to have one or two. What do you guys think I should do? (I would also try and find out what they are used for first, and if they are still used.)

you can always try? if they dont need it and is looking to get rid of it, pretty sure they wont mind giving them to you

So the pcs are actually not being used ever?

Well if theyre just sitting there you could probe whatever teacher is responsible for the tech stuff,

you might get lucky (but probably not id say).

Id say there are about 30-40 PC's sitting in there, and I know there are 5 iMac's and at least 4 Mac Pro's

Worth a shot. I got a gigabit switch, 2 poweredge servers, and a pentium 4 rig for free just for asking

I could. PC building is a very big hobby of mine and it would be a fun experiment to put windows on or make a server.

They give away free C2D desktops that they don't need in the Cisco(CCNA and CCNP) class at my school(HS), well as more in a reward after the course or so.

Only if they things that they don't want.
