Used Xeon Build

This build is meant to be semi-budget bad-ass, with the 10 core Xeon. It would be used for home, games, and some light workloads (no video editing/rendering etc.). Questions: What do you think? Can the motherboard be different without impairing the xeon in a big way (it seems a bit pricey)?  What 2/3 tb hard drives should i get for raid? Any other comments? Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Lol um that mobo costs more than the CPU. Is that normal for Xeon platforms?

you dont need a h100i V2 for a Xeon. Those CPU's were built to be run on air coolers for 24/7 use.

Anythign more than a 212 evo is pretty useless, you can't even overclock too

thats mostly because those xeons are being tossed out second hand by the hundreds around this time by datacenters that are upgrading, but i can guarantee you theres not a single datacenter out there running asus WS boards.

I don't think so. It's a good motherboard though, and the Xeon originally cost about £1060.

you can get fully fitted 2x quad core xeon with a crap ton of ram HP proliant G5's for like 80 bucks at this point

While 2011 boards are really expensive right now, you can get some server boards for a little less. I think most datacenters are keeping their 2011 systems, but upgrading the chips inside of them.
