does the fan hub use molex/sata? i havent seen any fan hub use pcie power `-`

if it only relies on your motherboard header to power 10 fans, dont even use it lol

  • As mentioned above, I'd like to know if I can connect the fan hub to my psu through the available 6-pin port.
  • Will I be able to control both PWM fans from a single header on my MOBO? If you can even use these fans for that. (I believe it only has 1 port for a cpu cooler.)
  • If I cannot control both fans from my Mobo, is there an "elegant" way of doing so?
  • If those fans aren't suited for being a heatsink fan, any suggestions?
  • Any tips on a program I can use to transfer windows from my HDD to the SSD?

1) answered above lol

2) you can use splitters to control two fans with one header, make sure you get PWM fan splitter for PWM fans

3) PWM fan hub, yours is a 3 pin fan hub, so 4 pin fans wont be able to plug in (so is the grid+, correct me if im wrong), so check carefully before purchasing

you can also get NZXT's Sentry 3, its a nice way to control your fans too

4) the fans are fine, the hyper 212 isnt that hard to get air through

5) you can find disk cloning software, but your ssd must be as big as or bigger than your hdd for them to work

normally i just recommend people to install a clean copy of windows, so there are no old drivers and what not that might cause issues

if possible, you can list your parts in pcpartpicker.com, it makes it easy for us to look at everything at once since everyone around here uses it :P

Greetings fellow pc enthusiasts,

I've been working on my build for a couple months now, finalizing and realizing that I need to revise my build because something didn't quite fit. Now, one again, I've found a possible issue. Although this time, I was unable to find information about it. Once I got all my components together, which I will summarize and link below, I realized that I needed some sort of fan hub/controller. Now, I am using 3-pin fans and found a controller that allows for up to 10 fans to be connected, which is way more than I will ever need, however I'm fine with that. My power supply has a single 6-pin connection remaining after connecting all my other cables. Can I use this 6-pin connection to power the fan hub, or do I need to change something?

As for a part list:

> Pcpartpicker

> Tweakers

And a summary of questions I thought of:

  • As mentioned above, I'd like to know if I can connect the fan hub to my psu through the available 6-pin port.
  • Will I be able to control both PWM fans from a single header on my MOBO? If you can even use these fans for that. (I believe it only has 1 port for a cpu cooler.)
  • If I cannot control both fans from my Mobo, is there an "elegant" way of doing so?
  • If those fans aren't suited for being a heatsink fan, any suggestions?
  • Any tips on a program I can use to transfer windows from my HDD to the SSD?

Of course, feel free to leave any suggestions or tips, as I'm new to building a desktop and would love to learn. Also, my excuse for any mistakes in grammar, as English isn't my native language.

Additional info:

Spoiler

In reference to this post:

1. My budget is fairly flexible, however, please don't give me a €400 suggestion for a single fan. ;) I live in the Netherlands and therefore use EUR, but I am not afraid to spend some dollars if something is cheaper when purchased abroad with shipping.

2. I am mostly looking for a desktop that I can game on. For me, this includes anything from Battlefield 4 to Payday 2 to Minecraft and old CD/DVD era games. (like Roller Coaster Tycoon)

3. I plan on having 2 monitors at most. However, I am currently running 1 older monitor, which I believe is a 1080p screen. (I frankly have no idea. When I switch to 720p though, it uses the upper right part of my screen.)

4. I currently do not need to purchase any peripherals. I do however want to transfer windows from my HDD to the SSD.

5. I am upgrading due to having purchased the division and not being able to get a playable framerate. (My current GPU a AMD 6700/7600 series. No I am not certain, but does that really matter? :P)

The fan hub includes a Molex to 3pin power adapter and a 3pin female to female adapter. Am I able to use the molex adapter to plug it into the PSU via a adapter from 6pin to molex?

The 212 comes with 2 brackets, and I'd need 4 if I were to use 2 fans. (Or so I believe) And with the fans not being the expensive part, they are more for symmetrical looks than anything else. ;)

The r3 fans are 3 pin. However would it be worth paying the extra €20 for the management of my fans (as I believe the 10 fan hub doesn't allow you to control the fans.)

Listed the parts I could find through pcpartpicker and tweakers (A site my friend referred me to.)

probably yea, pcie 6 pin to molex

i would highly suggest you get a fan hub that can control your fans, or it'll sound like a wind tunnel

Would you have any recommendations for a 3pin fan controller? As that was the only one I could find ;) Of course any 5,25" would also work, since I still have a bay free.

or a PWM fan hub, but i have a PWM fan hub and its not working (maybe i did something wrong but bleh)

I'd also like to know a little bit about this, I've seen 3pin and 4 pin molex cables. Are they compatible or will that give me an issue?

if the molex are missing a couple pins, that means its not needed by the thing you're connecting so its probably fine

That is my current problem. The fan hubs use a 4 pin molex, but I believe that when you use a pcie 6pin to molex, it splits into 3 pin molex's.

hmm yes, maybe because 6 pin doesnt have the voltage of the last pin

doesnt your psu comes with molex? i know most do

or you can get sata to molex converter?

Suprisingly enough, I thought that every sata port could only power 1 thing. Then I looked at the cables and realized that there appear to be 3 connectors on each sata 6pin slot :P  So that should free up 3 instead of 1 6-pin slots on my psu.

However, I still can't find a 6pin to 4 pin molex cable? (I believe all the fan hubs use a 4pin molex cable.)

http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html

according to this website, 6 pin only have 12v while molex have 5v and 12v :D

so you wont be able to get the 5v line from the 6 pin connector

but seriously, doesnt your psu come with molex cables? or sata cables? sata can be converted to molex because sata have all 3 voltages, 3.3, 5, and 12

the evga g2 should come with molex

I see, so I'd have to go from a 6pin to sata on my psu, and then from a sata to molex? Man, You just have to love technology xD

that wont work either, because you still dont have 5V

Alright. I found this image of the included power connectors. However I can't quite tell if the perif cable has a 4pin or a 3pin molex.

if its from the psu, its sure to have all the pins

and the two cables above the screws are molex cables, so you're good to go

Great ^^ Guess it is time for me to move on and start throwing some data at excell and see how I can get everything the cheapest.

 Thanks for your help :)
