Which Cpu cooler?

Hello all,

I am trying to decide between the cryorig R1 ultimate and the NZXT Kraken x61 to cool a very overclocked i5-6600k. I know that many of you will tell me to ditch both and get a nocuta cooler, but the asthetics just ruin it for me too much, so that's not on the table. I have the breathing room within my budget for this, so I am wondering about noise levels, and difference in performance, real world. All opinions welcome, but be polite please. Thanks!

Noise depends on the pumps and the fans they use. I'd go for the X61 as i heard the pump noise is very low. But hey i'm no expert as i'm rocking a Hyper 212 Evo xD

Hope this helps :P

if you want better cooling performance, the kraken x61 is pretty good

i have phobia with dual tower heatsinks already... with my DRP3 causing me issues...

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

With the Kraken, you introduce three failure points to your cooling instead of one (pump, hoses, fans vs. the fan). That's literally the only drawback to going with the Kraken over the R1 Ultimate, assuming price isn't an issue. I'd probably...wait for it...release the Kraken.

Make sure the R1 Ultimate will fit your motherboard without blocking RAM or PCIe slots, if you decide to go that route. It's a beefy little monster.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

It will block one expansion slot, but I can live with that.

Lol if not you just gotta deal with it xD, i mean i'm sure they wont be like F15's like the intel stock cooler's fans xD

I've got an H5 Ultimate on a Micro ATX board, and it does the same. I did some testing a while back, and there's something like a 0.4% difference performance-wise between the x16 slot and the x8 on my board, so I'm not the least bit concerned about it.

I mean, technically, I can fit the GPU in the first slot without interference, but it puts the backplate only a couple of mm from the heatsink, and it makes getting to the tab to remove it a real bear.

The x61 performs better but has more points of failure and is usually more expensive. The R1 Ultimate doesn't have anything particularly special about it other than being one of the best performing heatsinks with great mounting hardware.

If you stick to stuck ones, the R1 wins for silence by far. If you get black NF-A14s or Bitfenix Specter pros or AP141s, then it should be around the same. However considering you got an i5, I'm not sure the Kraken would benefit you more than the R1, I mean sure, a couple degrees off, but if that means 65 instead of 68 degrees under full load, and considering that while they're are pretty reliable you always run a risk of a dead pump or a leaky unit, I'd personally go with the R1, looks sick, quiet, amazing performance.

The x61 is louder too if you use stock fans, worth mentioning.

Why those specific fans?
