gaming audio setup

K ... I was going to buy a new headset(most probably elite prism/tiamat 7.1/ strix 7.1) 

So I was wondering whether a sound card /DAC would be any good (all the headphones support 7.1 sound)

I wouldn't go for either of those? These two is probably what I would pair together. A solid pair of headphones, and a microphone that hooks up directly to the port of the headphones.

You can't use a soundcard or DAC with those headphones because they already have a USB soundcard built-in for 7.1 processing.

You don't need 7.1 as games already have positional audio, just get good open-back headphones such as the Sennheiser HD 518 which have a wider soundstage, better than any virtual surround processing crap.

Just get normal high quality non-gaming headphones from Sennheiser or Audio Technica and then download a virtual 7.1 surround sound programme. An example of a 7.1 virtual surround sound programme is one from Razer. Look it up!

So can you recommended me any good pair of headsets ...unfortunately modmics are not available to n India

The Kingston HyperX Cloud is the only decent sounding headset. Though Modmics DO ship to India if you order them from the official website (http://www.modmic.com/)

if you really want a headset out of the box there is also the game zero and game one, but if you want more for your money there is a pinned post with a lot of headphones you could give a look and then add a mic.
