Task manager not opening

Go to solution Solved by DXMember,

do a factory reset

I cannot seem to open task manager as it displays a error message of  "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control Panel." as well as this I cannot open command prompt (admin) or download anything off chrome or Microsoft edge either. I use Windows 10 on my ROG G20 and I have only had it a month.

Assuming you have not already tried it:

Try opening Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc

...if that doesn't work...

Restart your computer

Check for updates

Install any updates

Restart again (if it does not restart as part of the update process)

Try opening it again

If that still doesn't fix it then you may need to see about a OS refresh. (Make sure to back up all your personal data on an external drive and run BelArc Advisor - and print out the report - first!)

Virus or malware in action. Many changes the registry to break the Task Manager from opening making it difficult to kill the malware or virus. Keep in mind that your Anti-Virus or anti-malware software only removes the infection, it doesn't repair Windows. So, re-install Windows.
