Spec changes to stream?

Xeon E3 1231v3 and use NVENC - though the 960 will still take a hit

Hey all, so I'm looking more into streaming and it's become a problem with a majority of games, I expect fps to tank a bit, but cpu usage is getting to be an issue from what I understand. Is there a budgetable way to upgrade a part or two to lighten the load while streaming?

current specs:

i5-4690k

Nvidia gtx 960 SSC (2gb)

Z97 gaming 5 mobo

8gb ram

while I understand ram may be an issue, is there any particular thing I can fix immediately?

Use OBS, and the nVidia NVENC encoder.

Could just enable your integrated graphics, and enable quicksync instead of nvenc. While quicksync does not look as good as nvenc or h.264, you wont be taking any currently usable resources away. You will have a dedicated core just for encoding.

I actually am using OBS, is there possibly some settings I have that would be tampering with it?

Go into settings, then to Encoding, then select nVidia NVENC under Encoder.

You can't use the iGPU and dGPU at the same time with Intel and Nvidia

Really? Because I have been using it in exactly the configuration you say doesn't work!

No stutter? No decreased performance? Everything works while streaming? With a 960?

970, but I dont see why it would make a difference. I dint use the card with nvenc, so it doesn't make a difference. I do have an i5-3570k, which has an even worse graphics core than haswell. Ni stutter what-so-ever.

Some people who've tried it have reported massive stutter but then again they had one monitor hooked into the GPU and another into the iGPU

I dont hook anything up to the integrated gpu. All of my monitors are connected to my gpu. The only use for my iGPU is for quicksync encoding.

Might have been why they were seeing issues then
