Dead Main BIOS

Go to solution Solved by Maverik5124,

Boot up with the switch in the backup bios position. Then when booted up switch the switch to position 1 and flash the bios in windows. (I think I heard this in a Linus video... I take no responsability) good luck! :)

I have a Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H, and a month or so ago I made the mistake of using @BIOS to update my BIOS over the Internet. Needless to say, it didn't turn out, and my BIOS was corrupted. When I try to boot using the main BIOS, it just flashes codes on my debug LED and doesn't actually boot or recover the BIOS. Is there any way to save my main bios? I can live with just using my backup BIOS, but if you have an idea for troubleshooting this problem, your advice would be greatly appreciated.

How would I go about doing this? I contacted tech support, and they told me to RMA it.

If they said to RMA the motherboard then i highly recommend you do it. How ever here are two reviews that show the dual BIOS switch......

You could either RMA it if you wanted to or use the backup bios:

To the lower right of the DIMM slots are the voltage measurement points, the power, reset, and BIOS reset buttons, the Dual BIOS switch (SB), and the active BIOS switch (BIOS_SW). The active BIOS switch is used to switch between the primary and backup BIOS. With the switch set to the 1 position (default), the main BIOS is active. In the 2 position, the backup BIOS is activated. The Dual BIOS Switch is set to enabled (the 1 position) by default. Dual BIOS is disabled with the switch in the 2 position. The voltage measurement points allow for direct board voltage measurement using a volt meter.

I sort of did what @Maverik5124 suggested. I went into the BIOS, opened the QFLASH utility, switched the BIOS, and updated the corrupted one. Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions!

glad you got it fixed. Also posts like yours should be more common in forums... not just saying "problem solved" this way people with the same problem can benefit
