CPU Testing, Do I need a cooler?

Hello,

 

Before I do a custom water loop I need to test if the hardware works. Would I need a cpu cooler to test the cpu or will it be fine for a few mins?

I would put it a cooler on.

If you have the block already, just quickly install it (no need to apply paste or put the tubing). Just let it there, and it'll soak up the heat for a little while just for you to get into the bios and make sure the mobo and CPU are working.

 

If you don't... well, it's not really recommended run without a cooler, but you'll live long enough to post (just shut it down immediatelly after).

yes put on a cooler. Even with a waterblock with waterblock attached, when i forgot to power my pump my PC quickly overheated and shut itself off within 20-30 seconds. I actually rebooted like 20 times wondering why my PC get shutting off after switching PSUs and then remembered I didn't plug in my pump and my waterblock and tubing was super hot. around the socket.

yes. your cpu will overheat and shut down the computer within 30 seconds without cooling. just put a heatsink and fan on it for testing
