Hello there,

I am fairly new to the whole PC scene. My current build is an i5 3570k @ 4.2GHz, and an ASUS GTX 970. I recently overclocked my GPU. I then ran the Unigine Valley bench marking at Extreme HD. Here are the results:

FPS: 29.0

Score: 1214

Min FPS: 18.5

Max FPS: 51.4

I then asked a bit on Reddit, and these seemed to think that these results were not what I should be getting. I should be getting more. Was just wondering if anyone could see anything wrong with this build? See if there is anything bottlenecking the system. So, I have an i5 3570k @ 4.2GHz, an ASUS GTX 970, 8GB Vengeance Gaming RAM and an Corsair H60 water cooler. I don't think the CPU temps are throttling anything. I get around 67 degrees when playing games and such. Sorry if I've missed out anything that is crucial, like I said, this is my first build and just want it to work as efficiently as possible :)

Any advice is appreciated

I highly doubt that any bottlenecking is taking place. But since you were stress testing your GPU, it can only mean that the reason is coming from the GPU. Do you mind telling me what PSU (power supply) you are using, and as well as your RAM and motherboard?

My Power Supply is - https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00PGUSEBG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

My motherboard is the P8 Z77-V LX. I have updated the Chipset and all of that too.

With the RAM, not too sure about the frequency. I know that it is the Corsair VengeanceLP 8GB

The power supply is good... I cannot seem to think of anything that is causing this issue.. I recommend taking it to a PC repair shop. If it is the graphics card that is having an issue, I would recommend you returning the card back and replacing it with a MSI GTX 970 4GB as it is better.

But I think that if you were to return the card, they would just replace it for you.

The power supply isn't necessarily good. Just because it's a nice-looking model from a reputable brand doesn't mean that it's not going to malfunction at some point without failing catastrophically yet.

The card likely isn't at fault, but one can't be entirely sure. The 970 doesn't run particularly hot in general.

In which ways are MSI's 970s better?

Sig under construction.

The MSI one has a beefier heatsink and better fans. And MSI can be overclocked further.

Vsync will do that when enabled, in Uengine/Nvidia settings maybe its turned on?

Vsync trying for 60fps constant, hits 55fps or sub 55fps and drops to 30fps then back n forth.. showing limited performance/scores.

You play games,.... are they dropping performance?

I'd say its a software issue first, not a hardware one.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

Ran it again without VSYNC enabled. I usually turn it off too, I have a 144hz monitor:

FPS: 29.1

Score: 1217

Min FPS: 18.7

Max FPS: 50.
