Got the same problem. Just randomly started happening. At first my input was freezing and then I realized the intense heat coming from my laptop side fan.

Opened gpuz and my discrete gpu that should be at 0% was at 99%.

Reboot and I'm good for a few hours then the problem comes back again for not reason. Not games or gfx software running.

Malwarebytes found nothing. Nothing seems to be using too much CPU. Task manager shows 100% gpu usage but the processes only show they are using a small fraction.

Tried Windows defender full scan and then I realized...

Its windows defender.

Whenever the windows defender antivirus appears at the top sorted by CPU usage that's when the gpu jumps to 100% even tho task management shows its using 0%gpu and 23%cpu.

During idle when it appears to happen out of nowhere it's was because Google backup and sync was checking 26 thousand files and then google service appears under the antimalware process along with defender antivirus service.

So basically whenever Google syncs it triggers defender to scan files and defender causes the massive gpu load.

This is a serious problem for me as my laptop is cooking to death. It gets up to 99 degrees Celsius on the CPU temp and start freezing.

Laptop is too hot to touch. I'm really getting tired of windows 10 randomly updating and giving me problems I have to spend 3 days looking in to.
