Ethernet Cable length

Go to solution Solved by Mark77,

100m is the limit for Cat-5 twisted pair RJ-45 1000base-T.  And no, you won't suffer any performance degradation unless you go over that limit.

Hi all. I'm looking at routing an ethernet cable from my modem downstairs to my PC upstairs. The distance is roughly 20 meters. Therefore I'm looking at getting a 50 meter cable just to be safe on length (can maybe drop down to 30 meters if I can find them online). Just wondering if there is any drop in performance past a certain threshold? (as I'm aiming to get better performance when gaming as my Wi-Fi reception upstairs is terrible). Thanks.
