CPU Speeds

Hi, I'm looking to buy a processor for my new computer. I originally wanted to buy an Intel Core i3 4170 @ 3.7GHz but I decided to look at i5 quad-core processors. However, most of the quad-core i5's I'm looking at are mostly below 3.5GHz. So I wanted to know which is faster, the dual-core i3 @ 3.7GHz or the quad core i5 @ 3.2 - 3.5GHz.(Basically I want to know if there is a difference between dual-core speeds and quad-core speeds)

Thanks

the i5 will be better even though the clock speed is marginally slower

4 cores > 2 hyperthreaded cores
