I just got a 980ti and have around $300-$400 bucks for a monitor.

Originally I wanted to buy a dual monitor setup but I won't have money for an extra monitor for a while.

So I'm stuck deciding between buying this LG 29UM68 for 299 at Frys or buying a cheaper 1440p IPS screen. I was looking at the Asus PB278Q but I'm wondering if there's a better option.

I'm planning on gaming and working on this monitor.

Do you guys have any suggestions for which route I should take?

Its really hard to say for anyone what would be better for you. Both 29" 2560x1080 and 2560x1440 at 25"/27" are good mid end options. Do you have any option to see this ultrawide in person? Or can't you just buy both, test them and then return one of them?

In terms of size it looks like this: http://www.comparetvsizes.com/?tv1=27&a1=169&tv2=29&a2=219

I ended up buying the ultrawide but I'm starting to regret it. That link shows it's not much of a difference in size. It started shipping already so I think it might be too late. I unfortunately don't have the money to buy a 1440p one as well. It's been hard to decide because I don't have any place that lets me check out those two kinds of screens.

The 29" is a pretty good deal for its price.

But 2560x1080 is always a weird position to be in. People are starting to leave displays with 1080 vertical pixels and opt for 1440p instead. Not to mention you have 980Ti to power with higher resolution.

So for a new monitor, I always suggest to get 2560x1440 (QHD) or 3440x1440 (UWQHD).

Sorry for the late reply, I wish I could've posted sooner.

I mean you have a 980ti which can handle 4k no problem so why not get this. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/aoc-featured-28-led-4k-uhd-freesync-monitor-black-silver/5010800.p?id=bb5010800&skuId=5010800

Its $300 1ms response time and just as good of refresh rate as the other monitors so you wont notice a difference there. Looks like a great deal I would get it but i'm just in the market for a 34" ultrawide.

Which game can 980 Ti handle no problem in 4K? The Sims? And this is TN panel. Terrible gaming performance on TN panel. Really great option...

Get the 2560x1440 you get the exktra height that is a much bigger advantage then the 2" size differenc where the 1080 monitor is not high in pixel and that is something that makes it look a bit unsharp.

24" and 1080 is okay the same is 27" and 2560x1440 thats what is the best size for small and slightly bigger monitors
