Yes. It will bottleneck a single 980 as well. It will bottleneck a 970 too. The i7 950 is slower than an 8350

i dont see how a i7 950 can bottleneck a single 980 thats what i have and its always at 99% gpu usage with every game i play and my cpu usage doesnt go above 50% usually

I would not recommend upgrading to another 980 now as pascal will be coming soon and the prices should drop soon, and your CPU is very likely to bottleneck them depending on the games you play.

Overclock it and it'll tide you over. Although I don't see the point in spending a lot on a high end graphics setup a few months before a node shrink as GPUs gain so much.

That's not how it works. It heavily depends on the application in question - certain games use a lot of GPU processing power and almost don't stress the CPU - such games would be modded Skyrim and Crysis 1. Others abuse the CPU far more than the GPU - take GTA V for example as well as FO4.

lmao even an A+ class said that? Seems like my 290X is being bottlenecked in LoL and CSGO since it's only hovering 40% GPU Usage.

That's cause the game abuses Tess and as a result benefits from you having a 980. Try GTA V

hmm haven't tried GTA V and not going to buy it just to test that out but i have played battlefield 3 ultra 70 fps and titanfall.  also heavily modded skyrim. i have now pretty much listed all the games i own/have played

Even my 280 can run BF3 at ultra with 60fps or above - definitely a bottleneck

hmm so then i think im understanding this a bit better even though my 980 isnt being held back performance wise the bottleneck isnt slowing the 980 down per say but is my pc bottleneck as its the weakest part?

Your 980 is most definitely being held back. It will still perform fine but you won't be getting your money's worth as it currently performs on the level of a 970 with that CPU in most games meaning you essentially payed 150$ more for 512MB of working VRAM. My advice is to go for a Xeon E3 1231v3 or i5 6400/i5 4590 - those CPUs are upwards of 45% faster than yours

i only have around 530$ i can spend on an upgrade i know not a whole lot. and i still dont understand how it is bottlenecked as i always get 99% usage in the games mentioned and everywhere ive looked they always say a bottleneck is when your cpu is pegged at 100% and gpu isnt so it is going against everything i have learned to this date so unless you explain exactly how it is a bottleneck i will have a hard time believing it

A R9 280X gets 70fps in BF3. A 980 should be getting 90 to 100
