For the CPU:

AMD: I won't bother with it very much. They are for budget builds and they will bottleneck the 970.

Intel: There are two types of Intel CPU's:

  1. Non-K
  2. With K

Non-K cpu's are typically cheaper than their counterparts and they can't be overclocked*.

CPU's with K (Core i5/i7-xxxxK) are most likely expensive and are for enthusiasts**. If you plan on overclocking, get a K CPU.

Motherboards are pretty straight forward:

AMD: most MoBo's can OC.

Intel: only Z or X series if you want OC, H or B if not.

* Some Skylake Non-K chips were able to OC with some MoBo's.

** Exception is the Pentium G3258 which is a low end CPU and it can be overclocked.
