Good day all! Firstly, I'm in South Africa, so prices for, well, anything, especially hardware, is quite high, especially with the conversion rate as it is) so I can't just "go for part Y because it's only $15 more that part X or Z". Reason for upgrading: I'm using a 2011 Gigabyte Micro ATX Mobo, which has been really great. but yeah. RAM is limited, GPU is limited. It's at it's maximum. Time for an upgrade. My current CPU is a Q9550 2.83Ghz clocked to 2.91Ghz. I've put together a parts list, combining what I'll be re-using and the new stuff. What do you guys think? http://pcpartpicker.com/p/8tLsbv

List of things re-used: CPU cooler, PSU, Storage, video card, Monitor, Keyboard and mouse.

The reason for the blank case slot is, I built my own custom one last year, and am in the middle of designing a new one.

Please let me know what you think. I'm ordering on Tuesday if all things go well, but still some time to change a few things IF NEED BE. Main uses will be gaming, some 3D modelling work, and a few other CPU intensive applications. (That means, I don't want to hear "That CPU is too power for only gaming. get an i5-xyz)

Looking forward to your replies.

Yeah, I'm planning on getting the SSD in a few months. The current build barely clears the budget currently. So I am getting that list, then waiting a few months, upgrading my case (as mentioned, I'm in the middle of a new design), An SSD and I want to get another storage drive. I'm thinking of a M.2 SSD. http://pcpartpicker.com/part/transcend-internal-hard-drive-ts64gmts600 That one

What is your rationale with the storage? I assume the 750gb will be a boot drive, 1TB immediate access and 4TB for archiving?

Why not skip the 750gb and 4TB and get a 500gb SSD and 3TB HDD?

I assume you already bought the GPU? If not why go with a $650 970? You can get a 980ti for 600! (Provided location is not an issue of course)

The SSD you linked is not worth it! Its at SATA speeds anyway so go with a at least 500GB SATA SSD instead.

What modelling Software are you running? Won't the slower storage 750GB HDD is at 5200RPM!

Can you list what you already have?

I noticed after posting but run into some issues with the editor, my browser is a bit on the fritz, sorry about that.

The rest of the build (basically CPU, mobo and RAM) are all an excellent choice, only thing you should consider is the SSD issue, going with SATA instead of M.2, especially regarding the drive you linked above.
