Is windows installed on the machine? Or Linux? If windows or linux, here is a link to xampp https://www.apachefriends.org/index.html, which handles the server. You need to port forward on your router. Xampp will tell you which ports are needed. There is lots of documentation on this. Then you will need a dynamic dns or a static IP, whichever is easier for you. I recommend a dynamic dns.You will need to set up the domain you own to direct to the ip or name that the ddns gives you. In xampp, you will place the wordpress files in the proper folder in the xampp install directory. Once again, lots of documentation here. There are also tutorials for WAMP, which will work just as well, but I have found xampp to be better.

edit: If your router supports it, It may be useful to install dd-wrt. Here is a link http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database

Its automatic, just press this button!

well you're one step ahead of me then... Sandstorm.io might be a little overkill for what you are doing. IMO, you might have an easier time with something like ubuntu desktop or windows 7 (or 8/10). These OS's, while not designed around being servers, will cut you some slack if you misconfigure something. They also provide easy access to xampp files, and will allow you to install various editing tools and other utilities. If you are just setting this up for the first time, I would suggest sticking with xampp. Once you get to know the system you can switch to something like sandstorm.io

alright and if you have any issues with xampp then there are other software sets like LAMP. they operate in almost exactly the same way. Have fun :)

How do i set-up the dns ?

Your Domain provider should have a DNS / Zone config panel.

You need to create at the very least an A record - and your internet connection should have a static IP address.

An A record is where you point your domain name to the external IP address of your internet connection.

You might also want to create a CNAME where you point www.myurl.com to myurl.com  that way if anyone enters either with or without www, they will end up at your site

On your modem you will have to forward port 80 and port 443 (if you're using SSL) to your servers Internal IP address.

If you're using a signed SSL as well, you'll need to look into how to generate a CSR using something like openssl, and how to install your certificate, key & intermediate certificates for the given software you're using (e.g Apache, Lighttpd, Nginx, etc...)
