Car Subwoofers

Hello I was wondering if i could get some questions answered on car sub woofers. Does more watts mean more volume? What is SPL and how does it effect audio? Does running a sub at 2 ohm sound worse than running it at 4 ohm?

In the same setup more watts equal more volume. The actual volume (SPL) is determined by a lot more than just watts (mainly the sub itself and the environment). SPL only indicates how loud something is, it has nothing to do with audio quality. A different impedance (2 vs 4 ohms)  only affects how much current will flow at a certain voltage. If your amplifier can handle it, it will have double the output at half the impedance.

I think we'll be able to help you more effectively if you tell us what you're doing that's led you to these questions.

A lot of what you said is a lot more complex than a "yes/no" or "that's what that is" answer.

Can you give any details of what you're doing/trying to achieve?

SPL stands for sound pressure level.

"Running a sub at 2 ohm" doesn't really make sense.

I refer you back to line 3 of this post, then hopefully we can give you some more help :)
