Best Tech Video Filming Setup For Under $500?

What do you think is the best setup I could get for filimg tech videos for around $500-$600? I mean with a decent camera (would like an external mike input), a mike, and anything else I may need. I already have an editing rig, and am just trying to get started with YouTube.

Thank Guys!

Wait.. so you want an editing rig and a camera along with all its accessories for under $500?

It'll be tough considering that's the price of a starter DSLR alone...... You gotta be more specific about your usage.

You guys can't read.

He said he already HAS a computer.

$500 or $600 can get you a decent DSLR setup. This is what most people use for youtube videos. I started with a Nikon D5000 that was at like 18MP and it did amazing videos.

Where are you located so I can check into stores, etc?

He edited his post....

I saw the first one and didn't get the impression of a computer. He mentioned just a camera and such.

Ok cool. It really depends on what quality and how much you want to spend. Couple years ago I picked up a Nikon D5100 package from Costco. It was a good DSLR camera, came with lenses and made extremely good videos. Fits on a generic stand, can hold a external microphone easily for better sound and as a bonus you can actually take it with you and take high quality images. That is if you want to spend the max budget. These DSLR's are what most Youtube personalities are using.

Here is a quality test of the video it takes. This can easily be picked up for $500 with 2 lenses (the expensive part are the lenses)

$200 less than I paid for mine. It's been a great camera but I upgraded to a Cannon 5D

Awesome, I think this is what I will get! Will a Zoom H1 do for a mic?

  • 3 weeks later...

I would not go for a DSLR, you will have to do everything manual, manual exposure, manual focus.
I'd go with some kind of camcorder, that canon HF R42 looked good, and the audio on that is probably better than the audio on any DSLR.

My tips:

Get yourself a solid big tripod and a solid stable mini tripod.

My big one is an ancient tripod from 1960,1970 very solid!

My small tripod is a manfrotto 709b with very wide legs very stable!

Not mine picture but it shows that it supports big camera's

My other tip is get some cheap ass studio lights. Good lights is very important!

Mine where 45 euro for 2 with tripods!
