Hello,

I just finished my first buid I overclocked my CPU everything was running smooth until today when I crashed twice while playing CS-GO with a blue screen (clock_watchdog_timeout).

Here is my overlock and like i said its my first time building and overclocking a computer :)

i7 6700K

4,6GhZ 1.350V

Watercooled getting max 70C while playing games

Thanks for your advices and if you guys have the same CPU feel free to post your overclock so i can compare

Case: NZXT H440 Mobo: MSI M5 CPU: i7 6700K @4.6GhZ GPU: MSI GTX 970 100ME

RAM: 16Gb HyperX Fury SSD : 240GB HyperX Fury COOLER: NZXT Kraken X41

Go 4.5GHz then 1.300V i think for an overclock i7 that temp is fine but your cpu my be limited in overclocking.

Is it possible to get blue screens like that is he voltage is too high for the CPU core ratio

Thanks a lot for your help :)

Here is my Current build so our temps will be so much  different.

G3258 4.5GHz@1.302V/Cooler Master Hyper 212X, I did my stress test for 12 hours and here are my results. My ambient temp are 16c~18c

CPU Temp: Prime95: "68c~71c" / OCCT: "64c~67c" / Aida64: "61c~64c"

Games Temp: Dota 2 Reborn: "55c~60c" / CS:GO: "55c~60c"

Game FPS: Dota 2 Reborn: "95-120" / CS:GO: "120~170"

Looks like you need more voltage. Did you even stress test this overclock?

"Limited" at 4.6GHz? We are talking about 6700k here. Unless he is using really bad MBO the only limit is cooling.

WOW Really Skylake chip has no Silicon Lottery?. i mean can you overclock it to 6ghz with 1.9VOLTS?

4.6GHz is mild overclock on that chip.

So there is no Silicon Lottery? if you could verify this it would be great info for new builders. i mean most haswell are just pure luck.

Dude we are talking about shitty 4.6GHz which can be archived even with non-k skylake cpus.

Yes i know but too what i have understand in my Haswell is if you have a bad chip you have a bad chip like for example i could oc 4.7GHz @ 1.300V and if i oc 4.8GHz @ 1.500V it mean i have the chip to its high frequency. i only Mentioned @OP cause is what i understand, then you said

So if you said Limited ? then your implying that you can achieve 4.6GHz with a Higher Voltage and Guaranteed OC if you Have Proper Cooling?..

Am i wrong to Understand this Logic? or i Miss Understood you so much?....

You said its limited lol. Yes I'm sure you can get that chip stable at 4.6GHz easily.

Huh... What will be a good safe voltage for Skylake? I have heared countless times that 1.350v was Best Practice. To what your telling is quite informative if you can guarantee that going for a high voltage for a boost of 100mhz compare to a lower votage will be a best practice oc.

Like for example i could get my G3258 4.7GHz@1.349V but get a few fps increase on my Games and temps was almost 80c were a 4.5GHz@1.302V then temps got to lower 70c is better.

Those temps are for the Prime95 12hours stress test.

On game i get 60-70c on 4.7 and 50-60c on 4.5.

If you can keep it cool, voltage is not a problem.

My motherboard is the MSI M5 is that a good motherboard ?

What do you think I can achieve using my i7 6700k Msi m5 and Kraken x41 ?

I see lots of revews saying they could OC @ 4,7+ but no info on what temp and Voltage they are using !

Every chip is different. You'll have to test it yourself. My suggestion is to keep it below 1.4v for 24/7 use.
