Vsync Causing Lag?

My GTX 760 came in a pre-built and therefore has a REALLY subpar cooler. I can't really play CS:GO without vsync on, because my card will get up to about 85C and sound like a leafblower on the desk next to me within just a couple minutes. I don't mind using vsync of course (and that's what I do in pretty much every game), but in CS:GO it seems to cause lag. What I mean by this is that the card runs just fine while vsync is on, but even on lowest settings sometimes my frames will randomly drop to 30 and the game will be choppy and barely playable for a few seconds. Happens once every few minutes or so, sometimes I can get through a round without it and sometimes it's like that a lot. Really annoying. I don't think the card is the problem, because it never did this with the frame rate unlimited (but that's obviously not an option). What could this be caused by and what can I do?

Vsync depends on the game. Some games just switch between 30-60fps only, so if your fps drops below 60, you'll be locked down to 30. Vsync does also cause stuttery gameplay in a lot of games, if your framerate is below 60fps or if its varying a lot. It will also add a tiny amount of input lag, but not much.

 

What are your fps like?

It doesn't seem like it's only switching between 30 and 60. It stays at 60 most of the time but I do see it go down to like 56 or so, and when it goes down to 30 it goes back up incrementally so I see it in the 40's there as well. If you meant my fps without vsync I get probably 180 average in CS.

That's really weird... Can you try fps limiting in the Nvidia drivers?

Limit the fps in game to 160 or whatever you want. fps_max **

Would that be in the console? If so, how to I access that? I'm still pretty new to the game

Yes in console, go to game settings and enable developer console. Also, if you have any question about CSGO you can ask me.
