Gaming cpu

What would be the best cpu under 180 bucks for gaming? It's for someone who can't overclock so it doesn't have to be an overcklockable one

it doesn't pack that much "punch" if you don't overclock.

Fairly true, but i would still trust an i3 6100 or G3258 over any AMD CPU

if it doesn't have a k, isn't a skylake, or a g3258, then it isn't overclockable. but it is a solid choice.

most games don't utilize more then 2 cores, so this wouldn't be the best choice for gaming.

but some cpu intensive games require this processor on the amd side. its also pretty cheap and packs a pinch

the 2 cores on a i3 will be MUCH better then 2 cores on the FX.

Yeah its a fantastic CPU...however to make sure it reaches its potential, you have to overclock it

yeah sorry my bad, i mixed it up with another cpu, but its still a very solid choice and i used to have it, no problems

Yes, it breaks the $180 price point, but the i5-6500 is a FAR better value than the i5-6400.  It is 500 MHz faster for $20 more.

 

The i3-6320 makes no sense to me, neither does the i3-6300.  Both are well north of the i3-6100 for either 100 or 200 MHz more speed.

 

i3-6100 or i5-6500, depending on budget.

The only problem with that CPU is that in most games, the i3-6100 will beat it while costing $30 less and consuming half the power.

 

Yes, maybe ARMA III is the exception to that rule, but 90% of games are faster on the Intel chip.
