WIFI speed issue

I'm having a few problems with my wifi at home.

The main issue is that even though I have 25/5 MB per second wifi, my laptop only manages to use 11 MB per second download and 2 MB per second upload.

The wifi module on my laptop is the intel AC 3160 and my router has been tested to support 300+ MB per second download speeds. The question is why am I not able to fully utilise my wifi speed capabilities?

does you router support 802.11ac ?by the looks of your post you have a n300 router.

yes my router supports  a b g n ac

so are you connected to a 5ghz network? some routers make them for you and some dont. my surface pro 3 has a similar wifi card. but wifi isnt ethernet so with my 75meg connection i get around 50megs. also remember that 5ghz wifi signals cant easily go through walls

yup thats the problem switch to 5ghz you get double the speed here is an example with my note 5. 5ghz vs 2.5 ghz

ok, ive switched to 5 ghz 

but i think the wall is blocking the signal

5Ghz it technically AC 2.4 Ghz is technically marketed as N. Your provider cant do shit. 5Ghz has less range and penetration power. They will tell you your shit out of luck. Your only option would be getting a wireless access point, hooking that up to the current router and putting it closer, or moving your router.
