Sub $1000 camera

Hi, I'm looking for a good camera for under $1000 CDN, as a replacement for my Canon Powershot S5 IS, which I want to retire. I'm in the market for either a long zoom camera, or an entry level DSLR.

I'm looking for a fairly easy to use camera, that has good video capabilities, long zoom capabilities (if it is a long zoom camera), fast focus speeds, good battery performance, reasonable weight (no heavier than my existing camera), and good low light capabilities. 4k capture capability isn't required. Basically, this will be my go to camera for anything beyond my phone.

What are some recommendations? I've watched the latest LTT video and while Brandon does give some suggestions that leap out at me, what are some other options?

If you want a fairly compact super zoon camera or DSLR styled cam, your best bet would be the Sony RX10 mk1, which is still being sold around $800usd new or the RX10 mk2 which could be had around $1100 USD new. Seems like this cam hits all your marks and it's been praised since it's initial release.

100% agree, RX10 is a beast of an all rounder

While the Sony RX10 does appear to be a good option, I’m think this time I am leaning towards a DSLR. What solid options are there in this segment?

I'm currently looking at the new Canon EOS 1300D Rebel T6, as it is within my budget for a camera and a telephoto lens, and have money left over for some gear to go with it, like extra batteries and a tripod. Is this a good choice?

Hi everyone, upon reviewing, I've elected to just add more money to my budget and get the Canon Rebel T6i. I also got the Canon EF-S 18-55mm IS STM and 55-250mm IS STM Lens, and a DSLR bag. All together, $1344 CDN. I'm officially in the DSLR world.
