Sapphire Trixx BSOD (HD 6950)

Hey guys,

I have had my Sapphire HD 6950 for a while now after receiving it as a gift from a friend who had upgraded. I recently decided that I may as well overclock the card to squeeze some more performance from this old card. So, I downloaded the Sapphire Trixx utility and tried to overclock. However, the newest version of the utility (V4.8.6) doesn't work for some reason (it crashes when I try to navigate to the settings tab). After some googling, I found that it was a common error and the best course of action is to download the previous version that works (V4.6.1). After downloading the utility and attempting to overclock my GPU clock by even 1MHz, I get a BSOD with a "System Service Exception" error that says I should try to search up "atikmdag.sys". However, I can't seem to find anything that solves the issue.

Does anyone know how to fix this bug?

Thanks!

AMD driver causing a BSOD could mean anything. It could be what @don_svetlio mentioned or something else. Are you using beta drivers? Try using MSI Afterburner instead?

I am not using beta drivers. Give me a moment to download afterburner.

It's also possible your card is a bad Overclocker. it happens

But even just 1 MHz overclock from stock causing a BSOD? It wouldn't be a bad overclocker... But the WORST LOL

Certainly possible. I've heard all sorts of weird stories - if the stock GPU was barely stable (as the 6950 is a 6970 which wasn't fully functional at correct values) it could be the case.
