Need Help with my build, Im new to PC

my build is a x99 build 5820k with a gtx 970 do I need a 750w power supply or a 650w

It will depend on what else you want to have inside your computer, and wether or not you're looking to overclock the system. But more than likely, even a 650W power supply will be overkill for that build...

i wont sli or overclock considering that im new to pc

650w will be good if you are overclocking. If you plan to upgrade in the future though buy a 750w. 650w is deffenitly not overkill though

should i just go with a 650 evga g2 rather than the 750 g2 theres about a $10 difference

I just threw some worst-case scenario into powersupplycalculator.net, with a high-end board, the 5820K and GTX970, an SSD, Blu-Ray burner and two 7200rpm drives, a pile of fans, high-end soundcard and a gaming keyboard and mouse plus another bunch of USB devices. It suggests an idle power draw of about 123W and a load power draw of about 440W, and recommends a 555W PSU. Adding a second GTX970 pushes their recommendation to 731W.

 

Assuming the OP isn't looking to add all of these things, isn't looking to OC or go SLi/CF, and taking into account that newer components have increasingly lower power requirements, I'd say that 650W is well more than required.

650W is overkill. The whole system won't pull more than 350W under load.

 

Just get the 550W variant of the G2 and you'll be fine.
