Hi, I just built a computer, but when I turned it on, it said to connect the PCIe cable(s) to the graphics card,  the psu only had 1 6 pin plug, and the gpu is an 8 pin.  It came with an adaptor where you plug 2 6pin connections and the combine into an 8-pin, but I only have 1 6 pin.  I tried putting just my one 6pin into the adaptor and plugging the 8pin part into my gpu, and I also tried just plugging my 6-pin straight into the gpu and leaving 2 slots empty.  Both times it displayed the same message as before. How do I resolve this problem?

easy, get a new psu with single 8 pin or 6+2pin power connector

if your psu doesnt have 8 pin then its probably best you dont try to make it perform like it has one

your gpu requires all 8 pin for it to function and the adapter requires 2 6 pin to supply power for the wattage of a single 8 pin

6 pin = 70W and 8 pin = 140W (about something like that as far as i can remember from the back of my hands)

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

What is the model of your power supply, are you sure it only has 1 6 pin pci cable?

Thanks guys, I'm using the $500 build in Linus' winter buyers computer guide, what wattage would you recommend for the PSU I get to support all the stuff that he had in it?  He said the cooler master elite had an okay PSU, but I guess not.

I don't think that's quite right as that gfx card is the EVGA SSC 960. Which only requires one 6 pin connector.

well i cant find a winter's buyer guide `-`

Me either, that's why I was confused lol. I thought you were right at first until I re-watched the video, man it has been a long time since I've seen that one.

Oh shiaaat, I got the wrong gpu..  You got the right video. The holiday buyers guide.

I wasnt paying attention when geforce SuperSC 4gb popped up instead of the SSC 2gb.

So now that I accidentally bought a better gpu, will there be any more compatibility issues if I just buy a better psu to support it?  Or do I need to get the other gpu?

This really makes me laugh lol :) I would buy a better psu, normally you won't have any other compatibility issues unless your case is very small and the psu doesn't fit.

I was thinking maybe this

http://www.amazon.com/Sentey-Xplus-Power-Supply-XPP725-HS/dp/B00SN6VN7W?ie=UTF8&keywords=psu&qid=1460505028&ref_=sr_1_5&s=pc&sr=1-5

Now that I see you bought the 4gb model that makes a bit more sense lol. I have personally never had any experience with that brand and know nothing about their product. You could technically get by with a lower wattage power supply. I also don't seem to see a efficiency standard. But, from looking at the pictures it does appear to have the proper connections you need for your gpu.

nope, just buy a better psu to run it (like how you should've anyway `-`)

refer to this list and try getting a 500~600W model from tier 1 to tier 3 for your rig

if you're lazy, get any seasonic PSU, they only make good psus lol
