Not sure when this started happening but it's been a while for sure, after trying everything i could find and contacting my ISP i'll now post here and see what you guys have to say :P

So my internet keeps going from 25mb/s download to around 0.2mb/s or even slower, it happens what seems like at random times and as far as i can tell only affects my own computer.

I use a homeplug system to make the internet reach my PC in my room and so is a wired connection, my home built PC does not have WIFI and i have had it for almost 2 years now.

I've noticed that the issue happens less at night however it might just be a coincidence i'm not entirely sure.

The internet one second will be 100% fine then the next it will grind to a hault but will not actually disconnect at the windows icon (still shows connected) although it will take FOREVER to load internet pages and then will eventually give up.

Not sure what to do tbh, any suggestions? I've tried:

  • Checking for driver updates
  • Moving PC next to router
  • Limiting background services and boot programs in msconfig
  • Running anti virus checks, malwarebites and avast
  • Resetting router

Any help is GREATLY appreciated, can't play WoW atm without disconnecting randomly it sucks :(

Thanks!

i normally just plug my desktop into the router and disable wifi so im the only one using it and test the speed then

because my family can sometimes hog all the bandwidth and it might not be the isp's fault `-`

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I have would of said it is the Powerline to connect your PC as they only usually last for about 2 years before they start failing (I know this from experience). If not that if someone else is using the internet lots they may get priority over you if it is a setting in your router.

Hard to test as no pages load when the problem occurs, the internet can slow down on my PC for 5mins to even 2 hours it seems completely random.

You can type this in your browser: 192.168.1.254

and look through the settings.

Almost every review I have seen of this router is negative or mediocre, have you considered upgrading it?

Looking through i can't see any setting relating to prioritizing bandwidth :(

I could however considering other devices work fine i don't think it is a router issue

It must be the power-line then as that is the most likely component to do this.

As stated above i tried connecting directly to the router instead of the homeplug and it did NOT fix the issue.

Is any other device connected through Ethernet?

A wifi "relay" point using homeplug on the opposite side of the house to the router along with a few other homeplugs just providing ethernet access.

This problem never used to happen and is something i think has been around for about 2 months

Well if you've tried direct connection to the router and it didn't fix the issue... did you try a different computer/device at the same time to compare. If you do this like one after the other I mean, not at the exact same time... and on both the speeds are crap, then it is most likely your ISP. You could try changing the DNS setting wither on the PC or router and see if that helps, it is possible that the DNS from the ISP has crapped out, so worth a try.
