So I'm sick of my laptop bluescreening despite my best efforts to fix it, and since I plan on building a powerful gaming desktop I figure I should replace my laptop. The problem is I want to be able to immediately add/replace with my current RAM sticks (which can be found here), which is 204 pin, and I'd also like to do the same with my Samsung Evo 850 SSD. The problem is I can't find a way to search for laptops based on their RAM sticks' pin count.

Anything I can do about this? It'd be preferable if it can hold more than two sticks of RAM and have one empty SATA slot for the SSD and come with an HDD.

I plan on reusing my current laptop as a small, secondary internet browser / video viewer by putting in a small HDD and 8GB of RAM, so my current laptop won't completely go to waste. If not, then I'll hand it down to my younger brother and let him deal with the bluescreens and other issues.

If your laptop runs DDR3 based RAM, that G.Skill kit should fit. It is more or less standard on laptops to use SODIMM RAM sticks.

thats a DDR3L dimm

@HunterAP

make sure you get the right one for optimal compatibility

DDR3 is not DDR3L

check your laptop's manufacturer website to see what ram your laptop uses

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

Erm so? DDR3L can use both 1.5V and 1.35V.

The issue I have is finding DDR3L RAM that uses 204 pins instead of 240 pins.

In my search, I found this MSI GP62 Leopard Pro-002 from Xotic, which claims that it does use 204-pin 1600 sticks. I figure I might as well customize it to switch out the CD enclosure for a second storage drive enclosure, adding a 128GB M.2 SSD for $10 (doesn't say what brand, however), and instead of getting a hard drive in the original enclosure I'm going to put my SSD in there.

Any other laptops I should look into?

Eh, what's your budget, location, needs, requirements for a laptop, etc etc.

Assuming the laptop can take a SAT III SSD and two sticks of 204-pin DDR3L RAM, I'm looking for one that has an i7 CPU, Nvidia GPU, 1080p resolution, 15.6" or smaller screen size, at least 3 USB 3.0 or 3.1 ports, and it's preferable that I can fit my current SSD and another storage drive in it, as well as have more than two sticks of RAM in it.

I'm looking to use it for coding, low/mid graphical gaming, and some video editing/rendering.

... FYI, 204 pin DDR3 RAM is laptop RAM (also known as SODIMM), while 240 pin DDR3 RAM is desktop RAM (usually just DDR3, or DIMM).

If you find a laptop that uses Desktop RAM, please link me, because I'd love to poop myself today.

So to answer your post, look for laptops that use DDR3 memory, and you'll be good to go.

And of course, it still has to have a 2.5" bay for your SSD.

Oh, sorry. I live in the US and I'd like the total cost to be <$1500 with shipping, but I can go higher if need be.

Oh wait, I forgot to ask you. What is the form factor of the 850 EVO you have on hand right now? 2.5", M.2 or mSATA?

That's good to know, makes my searching a lot easier!

It's 2.5" SSD. I realized I could basically pick any laptop on Xotic and have it customized to have one HDD and one slot for my SSD, the question is which laptop is the best to work with? I don't need a 970M or 980M or a 980 since I'm planning on just using my gaming desktop for intensive games, so I think something like a 950M or 960M should be fine.

I don't know whether they have the HDD caddies available to replace the DVD drive, but you can try asking them. Or you can buy online and fit it in yourself.
