Which should I choose?

So my parents are already extremely suprised about how much I'm willing to spend on my PC 1.6K CAD and right now I have $830 and at the end of summer I'll have at least $950 (Probably more, the $120 is from Cadets). I'm planning on getting a 6600K and a 1070 next January when I would be able to afford one but would it be better to just buy a 6500 and a 380 right now? I'm not sure if the 500 extra is worth it. What do you guys think? I'll be playing a 1080p and the build needs to last 4 years which is why I was thinking 1070.

Well... we know nothing about the 1070 now, but I think the plan of getting a 6600K and wait for it seem fair, depend on what game you are playing. 380 would be a serious downgrade since the 1070 would be atleast better than the 970 even if it's only 10%, and 970 is already so much better than the 380. The iGPU in the 6600k would be good for games like Dota, LOL, CS GO, Rocket League etc, so you could games on those while waiting for 1070 or so. There's also the option of buying 2nd hand, and if you live in Canada you will have access to lots of it for cheap (unlike someone like me who live in Thailand...)

I guess I said 1070 for place holder. I might get the 490 if it's better but we know more about the 1070 it seems so I out it down. I think I'll go with the 6600K but I'd like to see what others think

To be fair, if you said that you will have those money by the end of summer, then you should formulate the build plan around that time, since by then the 1070 and potentially the 490 would be out, and we will have some review on it. It dont really make sense to plan this early base on things we know nothing about. Kinda like pre-order game if you asked me

You're probably going to want an AMD card anyways unless nvidia adopts free-sync so you save money on an adaptive sync display should you get one at some point.

but otherwise, the 380 is going to be fine for 1080p gaming for a while, I'm doing 1440p gaming on a 7850 atm.

**Swapped out the PSU for the more performance per dollar option, left the old below as a fully modular option
