Quietest HDD For Mass Storage

ddbtkd456

I need to find out which is the quietest HDD for mass storage (3TB), I know the basics that you will not get any noise from a SSD, however that is really not an option since they don't have 3TB SSD's (at all, and if they do there probably outrageous in price). Basically all this drive will be used for is to store music and movies that will be streamed across plex, nothing too demanding. I already have an external 4TB for a backup along with a 500 gb SSD. Options recommendations? Thanks.

If you've previously won the build off please pm me so we can get something worked out.

A 4TB WD Red would be my recommendation since 3TB drives, for whatever reason, seem to have (relatively) high failure rates.

Hey there :)

I would check the WD Blue drive as they are low-rpm drives designed for regular usage and massive secondary storage and work pretty quiet.

Another thing you may consider is WD AV as these drives are designed for extremely quiet performance and should work just fine for your needs.

As @djdwosk97 suggested, WD Red may also be a good option, but they are NAS/RAID class drives and you won't really make use of the additional features if used as a regular storage drive.

Feel free to ask if there are any questions!
