In Linus' most recent video update he is using a Gigabyte X79S-UP5-Wifi . Whether this is the actual board he chose - i cannot be sure as i haven't been watching as closely as i would have liked; however it seems like it is.

not entirely sure what you mean since most boards dont "whine" nor do most have fans. the motherboard Linus has is a socket 2011 board and i beleive it costs more than $300

Case: Cubitek MiniCube CPU: i5-3570k @ 4.7GHz GPU: Asus GTX 670 DirectCUII MoBo: Asus P8Z77-i Deluxe/WD RAM: G.Skill Sniper 2133MHz

It's the coils that do the actual whining. One board he didn't like as it had coil whine at LOW workloads (usually whine is only evident at HIGH workloads) he tried another board and it had a small fan cooling the chipset this fan made a lot of noise. Sabertooths have very evident small fans and one of the boards he rejected had a small fan cooling the chipset..

thats what i figured, simple solution, dont get a motherboard with a built in fan

Vanwazltoff :- "Don't get a motherboard with a built in fan."

There are not a lot of X79 boards fewer still with the 'correct' colour scheme even fewer with no fans and no coil whine I think Linus's search is more complicated than just getting one with no fans.
